Santa Cruz Skateboards (also known as SCSS) is the name of a U.S. sports equipment and outfit company based in Santa Cruz, California. It was started in 1973. Northern California surfers, Rich Novak, Doug Haut and Jay Shuirman formed NHS Inc. Santa Cruz is privately owned, and is part of the NHS Inc family.
Santa Cruz' main products are skateboard decks and wheels. Santa Cruz also produces snowboarding and surfing equipment under their own specific companies.
Alien Workshop is a company founded in 1990 by Chris Carter and Mike Hill.
Based in Dayton Ohio, this is a departure from the Californian-centric skateboard industry. Alien Workshop produces decks, wheels, apparel and other skateboard accessories, and is known for its artistic graphical style, with themes of paranoia and futurism often used. Alien Workshop is owned and distributed by DNA Distribution, which also owns Habitat Skateboards and Reflex Bearings. DNA Distribution was bought by Burton Snowboards on February 5, 2008.
